The RTLA Story: From Mandate to Movement
The story of RTLA Church is not just about buildings or timelines—it’s about a divine call, a deep internal shift, and a bold vision to reform culture and restore hearts.
Pastors Javier and Cynthia Buelna have been on a journey together since the age of 15—now 34 years strong, parents to three adult children, and proud grandparents of three. Their story is a living example of faithfulness , leadership, and mission.
In 2004, God gave them a mandate: build the church. They obeyed—not fully knowing how much more God would do. What began as an assignment has since become a movement. Over time, what they built has grown into something far greater: a church that looks like heaven—bilingual, multicultural, multiethnic, and multigenerational.
The early years were marked by painful pruning. RTLA had to unlearn religion to relearn relationship. As the church transitioned from legalism and tradition to authenticity and grace, attendance declined—but the culture was being purified. What felt like struggle was actually sacred formation.
By 2014, the shift became visible. A fresh wind blew through RTLA: new mindsets, new leaders, and a restored sense of identity. The church began to thrive—not because of hype, but because of health.

Who We Are Today
RTLA Church isn’t just a place—it’s a presence. We are a community of reformers, soul-healers, creatives, and culture-shapers committed to building lives, families, and futures that reflect the heart of God.
In 2024, due to continued growth and the expanding impact of our ministry, we moved to the El Segundo Performing Arts Center. This move is more than a new space—it’s a prophetic picture of elevation and expansion. It’s a home that matches the magnitude of the mandate.
We lead church, culture, and family with the same conviction:
•Authenticity over appearance
•Wholeness over hype
•Formation over performance
•Legacy over trends
What started as a mandate to build a church has become a movement shaping lives, leaders, and generations. From South Central to El Segundo—and to the world—RTLA is reforming culture, reaching people, and training leaders—one life at a time
