The story of RTLA Church isn’t just about buildings or timelines—it’s about a divine calling, a soul-level transformation, and a movement born from obedience. It’s about ordinary people becoming reformers, about healing from the inside out, and about building a church that looks like heaven and lives like Jesus.
Pastors Javier and Cynthia Buelna have been walking in unity since the age of 15. Now married for over 34 years, they are parents of three adult children and proud grandparents of three. Their life together is a testament to faithfulness, growth, and radical surrender. What began in their hearts has now become a legacy that is shaping thousands of others.
From a Mandate to a Movement
In 2004, God gave them a clear mandate: “Reform the church.” They said yes—not knowing the cost, but trusting the Caller. What began as a simple step of obedience turned into a full-blown movement. RTLA—was never meant to be a typical church. It was born to challenge systems, heal trauma, and raise up leaders who would carry truth, power, and purpose.
The early years were marked by painful pruning and uncomfortable obedience. God stripped away the religious performance and man-made traditions to make room for authenticity, depth, and healing. As we unlearned religion and relearned relationship, our attendance dropped—but our anointing increased. What felt like loss was actually divine preparation.
By 2014, the shift became visible. A fresh wind swept through RTLA. New voices, new vision, and a new culture emerged—one marked by grace, freedom, and emotional health. We stopped building for crowds and started building for wholeness. The fruit? People began to flourish.
Who We Are Today
RTLA Church is more than a place—it’s a presence. A tribe. A training ground. A hospital. A home. A movement.
We are a church of reformers, soul-healers, creatives, and culture-shapers—people marked by the love of God and mobilized to bring change wherever they go. We are bilingual, multicultural, multiethnic, and multigenerational, united not by preference but by purpose. We are not built around personalities—we are built around presence.
In 2024, due to explosive growth and increasing impact, we moved into the El Segundo Performing Arts Center—a space that mirrors our mandate. This wasn’t just about capacity—it was about calling. This new home speaks to the season we’re in: elevation, expansion, and execution.
What Makes RTLA Different
We’re not here to entertain—we’re here to equip. We don’t build ministries—we build people. At RTLA, we lead church, culture, and family with a clear, countercultural conviction:
Authenticity over appearance
Wholeness over hype
Formation over performance
Legacy over trends
Depth over drama
Spirit over systems
RTLA is not for the perfect—it’s for the becoming. We are a church where brokenness meets healing, and potential meets purpose. Where people are pastored into power, discipled into destiny, and transformed from the inside out.
Our Leadership Style
We believe that leadership begins in the private world—in how you love your spouse, raise your kids, and lead yourself. Our pastors lead with emotional intelligence, prophetic clarity, and pastoral care. We value character over charisma, health over hurry, and discipleship over dependence.
We are a collective of empowered leaders—mentoring, coaching, and equipping others to walk in their God-given assignments. Our leadership culture is honor-based, trauma-informed, and Kingdom-minded. We don’t just preach transformation—we model it.
Our Mandate
We are called to:
Reform culture by restoring truth, love, and identity.
Reach people from all walks of life with grace, relevance, and power.
Train leaders to be emotionally healthy, spiritually grounded, and mission-driven.
This is not a ministry built on hype or production. It is built on presence, purpose, and people. From South Central to El Segundo—and now reaching globally—RTLA is reforming culture, healing generations, and becoming a house of healing, a tribe of belonging, and an army of Kingdom warriors.
From Here to the Future
We are not just a moment—we are a movement. What started with a simple “yes” is now raising a generation of reformers. And we’re just getting started.
Welcome to RTLA.
